Gripe water is a liquid solution containing purified water, sucrose, colloidal silica, alcohol and methylparaben. Gripe water warms and soothes a baby's stomach and reduces colic and gas symptoms. Established in 1879, P.A. Benjamins Manufacturing Company Limited, its founder Percival Austin Benjamins, bottled preparations concocted of the young apothecary's knowledge of medicine. He soon made his products available to Jamaicans at home and abroad.
